Kristin Bjornerud

Artist Profile

Working extensively with the self-portrait, this young Canadian artist tries to bring to life the mythical encounters of fairy tales between humans and animals. Via the supernatural, she creates a possibility for conversation between the species concerning habitat loss and social morals on our obligations as human beings in the natural world. These blurps of imagination are a way of examining super-human perspectives through creatures mainly inspired by marionettes.

The watercolours give a sense of presence along with the refined technique and sense of composition. Bjornerud’s social and environmental engagement moves is visible and moves across the surreal creatures creating real depth to her work.
